Driefontein Mine
The ‘grande dame’ of mining, Driefontein is the only mine in the world to have produced 100 million ounces of gold. The nearest competitor is next-door Kloof, with over 70 million ounces. Today’s mine, with eight shafts, was formed by the amalgamation of West Driefontein and East Driefontein in 1999.

Test boreholes revealed the richest formation of Ventersdorp Contact Reef (VCR) and Carbon Leader (CL) ever found in South Africa. At the centre of this bonanza – Driefontein.
