The Johannesburg branch of SAIRAC organised a site visit to Trojan Fans on 12 July, showing members around the workshop and upping their knowledge on the ins and out of all things fans.
The South African Institute of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (SAIRAC)’s Johannesburg centre has been hosting quite a few interesting site visits this year for its members to see how the equipment they deal with in their day-to-day life is made.
The visit to Trojan Fans accommodated 20 people and everyone was extremely interested to see exactly how fans are made and how they work. Greg White, managing director of Trojan Fans, took visitors through the factory step by step, starting with the raw material and showing how the various fans are manufactured. The group many questions and everyone seem quite interested in the process as White explained the production process and applications for the various products on the floor.
After the workshop tour, everyone gathered in the boardroom for White’s presentation that went into more technical detail about the products and uses. He kicked things off by looking at the difference between fans, blowers and compressors, going into detail around the features of each.
White spoke on the types of fans that Trojan makes and the characteristics of the different types of fans. HVAC&R is but a part of their business and they build some pretty heavy duty large industrial fans for other sectors as well. He covered the fan laws and shared tips for fan storage.
He also looked at fan installation tips and gave some advice for safe and reliable fan usage to assist everyone to ensure that they get the most out of their fans.
After the presentation snacks were served and enjoyed by all.
